ENGINEERING SERVICES - H/RI PRODUCT

The owner of this elegant vessel contracted H/RI to analyze and recommend solutions on various problem areas on his new boat. 

Performance Solutions

The vessel suffered serious performance loses as laid down in the contract specifications.  These included lower top speed, difficulty to get on plane, limited mid-range capabilities as well as several propeller blade failures.

Analysis of the vessel showed that the completed vessel was considerably heavier than the original target weight.  This resulted in a compromised propulsion system.  In order to solve the performance problems, the reduction ratio was changed from 1.5:1 to 2.0:1 with a resulting change in propeller diameter from 32" to 39".  Inboard drivelines had to be replaced with larger sizes to accommodate the increase in torque.

Structural Issues

Many structural issues were addressed by engineers from H/RI.  These included hull stiffening, bulkhead stiffening and Engine Room ventilation issues.

Steering System Replacement

The original hydraulic system installation was done quite poorly using numerous loose valves and components.  The resulting mass of hoses and fittings caused serious pressure drop as well as generating substantial heat.

The loose components were replaced with the H/RI H0071 Integrated Steering and Trim Manifold.  The new system cleaned up the engine and steering compartments by locating all of the hydraulic control valves into a central hydraulic manifold.  Heat generation was reduced by over five horsepower.

A complete Integrated ASD Steering, ASD Trim and Trim Tab Control System was furnished by H/RI.
