PROPELLERS

Hunt/Railton International, Inc. has been designing and producing propellers since 1987, establishing itself as a world leader in the use of sophisticated design and manufacturing processes.  H/RI is dedicated to the advancement of propeller technology.  This dedication has made our product the propellers of choice throughout the world for many naval patrol vessels, passenger and commercial vessels as well as pleasure boats.

The personnel at H/RI and its manufacturing network are professionals, committed to assist in selecting the correct propeller for the application.

H/RI is more than a supplier.  H/RI is your partner in propulsion, assuring that the propeller fits the requirement, and that your needs are met after a sale is completed.

For those international projects, H/RI can supply designs for in-country manufacturing thereby helping any local content issues.  A side benefit for in-country manufacturing is the establishment of a local repair shop to handle any future service work.  H/RI has furnished in-country technology in India, Taiwan, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand and Brazil.

Depending on the requirements of the customer, manufacturing of the propellers follows one of the various International Standards Organization (ISO) standards, and if required, under the control of one of the many classification societies, (ABS, LRS, DNV, BV...).

Through the use of numerically controlled machinery, the human factors on finish have been eliminated on the ISO 484, class "S" propellers manufactured by H/RI.  Blade to blade repeatability, (the degree of dimensional similarity), is achieved resulting in a propeller that operates more efficiently with less vibration and cavitation.  In addition, these propellers run acoustically quieter inducing less noise into the vessel.

AVAILABLE SIZES

H/RI fixed pitch propellers are available from one foot (0.31M) up to 11.5 feet (3.5M) and controllable pitch propellers are available up to 23 feet (7.0M).

PROPELLERS FOR UNIQUE APPLICATIONS

Extensive experience over a broad range of applications allows H/RI to tackle complex and difficult propulsive problems.  We can engineer and manufacture solutions with the confidence gained through the experience of applications and utilize the advanced technology that H/RI has to offer.

STERN GEAR

H/RI can supply a wide range of conventional shafting, struts and rudder assemblies.  We also provide engineering assistance for tunnel designs.

SURFACE PIERCING PROPELLERS  SPP

With extensive design and experience, H/RI has forged into new territory with the use of SPPs.  No longer are the benefits of SPPs limited to just high speed.  This focused development has led to propellers that show a marked improvement in low and mid speed ranges, where SPPs have typically been weak.  H/RI implemented the first series of successful applications using large diameter, slow turning SPP propellers.
Available in 4, 5 and 6 blades, constant or variable pitch, round ear or cleaver style, with DARs ranging from 0.70 to 1.25.

ALLOYS

Propellers from H/RI are available in various alloys to suit the application.  Listed are the most common.  Iron, Aluminum and Composites as well as other materials are available for special purpose propellers.

MANGANESE BRONZE offers economy, easy machining, acceptable abrasion and corrosion resistance.  This material has long been the standard for propellers the world over.
           Tensile - 65,000 psi
           Yield - 25,000 psi
            Elongation - 20%

NICKEL ALUMINUM BRONZE offers higher tensile and yield strength and increased abrasion and corrosion resistance.  This material allows for the manufacture of thinner, more efficient propeller blade design.
           Tensile - 85,000 psi
           Yield - 35,000 psi
            Elongation - 18%

SUPERSTON SEVENTY offers excellent tensile and yield strength as well as resistance to abrasion and corrosion.  Superston Seventy allows for easy propeller repair and rework.
           Tensile - 105,000 psi
           Yield - 44,800 psi
            Elongation - 20%

STAINLESS STEEL offers excellent tensile and yield strength as well as resistance to abrasion and corrosion.  Stainless Steel allows for easy propeller repair and rework.
           Tensile - 70,000 psi
           Yield - 30,000 psi
            Elongation - 35%

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

H/RI does not have any manufacturing capabilities in the propeller arena.  Rather we choose to work with strategic partners around the world that meet our requirements.  Because of the range of propellers that H/RI designs and produces as well as the diverse customer requirements, quality has become a way of life.  This quality starts at the foundry.  Exhaustive laboratory testing is done for chemical as well as mechanical properties on the materials.  Numerous quality assurance points are maintained through this process, allowing only high quality castings to reach production.

H/RI is always looking for strategic partnerships in the propeller technology field.    If you are involved with, or know of any companies that would be interested in working with us, please e-mail us the details at:  info@h-ri.com.
